NSS Events Conducted during 2025–2026 (EVEN)

1. TRAINING FACT CHECK ORIENTATION PROGRAMME @ CHENNAI (08.12.2025)

A One Day Workshop for NSS Programme Officers on “Sensitization Against Digital Media Addiction (Information Literacy and Cyber Safety)” was successfully conducted on 08th December 2025 at F-50 Hall, First Floor, University of Madras, Chepauk, Chennai – 600 005.

The workshop aimed to create awareness among NSS Programme Officers about the growing concerns of digital media addiction and to equip them with knowledge on information literacy and cyber safety. The programme emphasized the importance of responsible digital behavior, critical evaluation of online information, and safe usage of digital platforms. The workshop was attended by NSS Programme Officers from various institutions. Mr. L. G. X. Agnel Livingston, NSS Programme Officer of our institution, actively participated in the training programme and gained valuable insights from the sessions.

The programme covered key topics such as identifying misinformation and fake news, understanding the impact of excessive digital media usage, promoting scientific temper, and adopting best practices for cyber safety. The sessions were interactive and included real-life examples and practical guidelines. Participants were encouraged to disseminate the knowledge gained to students and the community through NSS activities, thereby contributing to the development of a digitally responsible society. The workshop was well-organized and received positive feedback from the participants. It successfully achieved its objective of sensitizing NSS Programme Officers towards digital media addiction and enhancing their capacity to promote information literacy and cyber safety.

2. PONGAL CELEBRATION (15.01.2026)

Our college NSS unit celebrated the 2026 pongal celebration on 15.01.2026 in Ambedkar Colony in association with Tamil Mantram, Outreach cell and NCC. The Pongal celebration began at 2:15pm with the sports event. Our Correspondent Rev.Fr. Godwin Selva Justus and our Principal Dr. J. Maheswaran facilitated the gathering. The prizes were distributed for the sport events, and the entertainment programs. The celebrations ended with sweet memories. The participation of our students was around 40 and the people of Ambedkar Nagar were around 350.

3. KUMARI FESTIVAL (22.01.2026 – 24.01.2026)

The three-day event called “Kumari Fest" was conducted on the premises of St. Xavier's Catholic College of Engineering from 22/01/2026 to 24/01/2026. The event showcased the pronounced cultural heritage of our Kanyakumari district. In this event, the NSS volunteers of St. Xavier's Catholic College of Engineering involved themselves in organizing the event smoothly and properly. The volunteers extended their work in guiding the people to stalls, organizing the parking of vehicles, organizing the events taking place in the auditorium and the outdoors, arranging refreshments for the event guests and more. The three days were successfully organized, and the volunteers had done their best to make the event successful.

4. REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS (26.01.2026)

On the occasion of our country’s 77th Republic Day, the NSS Unit, in collaboration with the NCC and YRC Units, organized a Republic Day celebration at our college on 26.01.2026. The event began with a flag hoisting ceremony, led by our Correspondent, Rev. Fr. S. Godwin Selva Justus, followed by the Republic Day address from our Principal, Dr. J Maheshwaran. Around 40 NSS volunteers actively participated in the celebration. The program began with a welcome dance performed by the Fine Arts Club, setting a patriotic tone for the celebration. This was followed by a patriotic song, beautifully sung by the students, evoking a sense of unity and pride. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to the volunteers and performance for their dedication and efforts. Finally, the event concluded with the National Anthem.

5. FACT CHECK SENSITIZING PROGRAMME (21.02.2026)

A training programme was successfully conducted on 21.02.2026 at St. Xavier's Catholic College of Engineering. The programme was organized with the objective of enhancing awareness and knowledge among participants on key contemporary issues such as information literacy, fake news identification, hate speech awareness, social justice, scientific temper, and cyber safety. The training session was delivered by the NSS Programme Officer of the institution, Mr. L. G. X. Agnel Livingston, who provided valuable insights and guidance throughout the programme. His session effectively highlighted the importance of responsible information sharing and the role of youth in combating misinformation in society.

The programme content offered structured knowledge on identifying misinformation, understanding disinformation, and promoting ethical digital practices. Emphasis was placed on developing critical thinking skills and fostering awareness about the impact of fake news in the digital era. Participants, including students and faculty members, actively engaged in the programme. Key topics such as types of false information (misinformation, disinformation, and misleading information), impacts of fake news, and methods to identify and counter such content were discussed comprehensively. The session also covered constitutional values like secularism and social justice, along with the importance of cultivating a scientific temper.

Interactive discussions and real-life examples enhanced participant understanding. The cyber safety segment provided practical guidance on secure online behavior, including strong password practices, safe browsing, and precautions while using digital platforms. The programme was well-received by the participants, who appreciated the informative and practical nature of the session. It played a significant role in promoting awareness about responsible digital citizenship and societal responsibility. In conclusion, the training programme successfully achieved its objectives and served as an effective platform for educating participants on critical aspects of digital literacy and informed decision-making.

6. SOCIAL JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS 16.03.2026

An awareness programme on social justice and human rights was held on 16.03.2026 at Einstein seminar hall of our institution for the students in association with the Tamilnadu Police department. The head of the institution our respected principal Dr. J. Maheshwaran presided and delivered the speech regarding the social justice and human rights. The officials from Tamilnadu police gave awareness talk to our students regarding the citizen rights of our country.

7. SOCIAL JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS 16.03.2026

The NSS, YRC and NCC units of our institution organized a blood donation camp in collaboration with the Gov. Medical College Hospital, Asaripallam on 17.03.2026 to create awareness blood donation and significance of knowing the importance of human life. The blood donation programme commenced with a Prayer Song rendered by the Volunteers, invoking blessings for the successful conduct of the event. The presidential address was given by Dr. J. Maheswaran, Principal, SXCCE, highlighting the importance of social responsibility and the noble act of blood donation. The Special Address was delivered by the Chief Guest, Dr. M. K. Rakesh, Blood Bank Medical Officer, who emphasized the medical significance of blood donation and motivated the students to actively participate in such humanitarian services. This was followed by the Felicitation of Dr. V. Christus Jeyasingh, Vice Principal, SXCCE, in recognition of his constant support and encouragement. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, donors, organizers, and volunteers. The event ended with the National Anthem.

8. SPECIAL CAMP 2026 (23.03.2026 to 29.03.2026)

A special camp for the year 2025-26 was conducted from 23-03-2026 to 29-03-2026 in the ‘Vellicode’ village, Kanyakumari District. Around 100 NSS volunteers attended and performed NSS activities. Our Correspondent Rev. Fr. S. Godwin Selva Justus and Principal Dr. J. Maheshwaran inaugurated this programme. The NSS Volunteers actively participated in all the events individually and also as a group, thus improving their social and cultural skills. Several resource persons from various fields visited the camp and educate the students. Students actively participated in various activities such as cleaning the village, house visits, school students interaction, separate medical camp for NSS volunteers itself and the village people, Village Energy Audit, etc

9. TAMILNADU STATE ASSEMBLY ELECTION 2026 MOTIVATIONAL PROGRAMME AND VOTERS PLEDGE (16.04.2026)

In view of the Tamilnadu State Assembly Election 2026, we arrange a motivational programme through the PA system of our institution held on 16/04/2026 (Thursday) at 9:00am.. The head of the institution Dr. J. Maheshwaran presided and delivered the motivational speech regarding the awareness of voting. All the students of our institution were participated. And also a pledge regarding the voting was also taken by all the students, faculties and staff.

NSS Events Conducted during 2025–2026 (ODD)

1. INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY (21.06.2025)

The theme of International Yoga Day 2025 is ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health’. International Yoga Day was celebrated in our college on 21st June 2025 from 7.45 am to 8.45 am. A brief introduction about Yoga Day was given to the participants who attended. Our Principal, Dr. J. Maheshwaran, explained the benefits of Yoga and asked the students to practice it regularly. Ten different asanas were practiced and ended with Sankalpa. 34 NSS Volunteers actively participated in this event. Our NSS Programme Officer, Mr. L. G. X. Agnel Livingston, gave a special talk on the Yoga benefits and also thanked everyone who attended. After the program, breakfast was given to the participants. Arrangement for the program was done by the NSS volunteers along with the NCC and Sports Team of our institution. 2. DRUG AWARENESS PROGRAMME (17.07.2025)

The National Service Scheme of our institution organized a Drug awareness programme at Einstein Hall, on 17.7.2025 from 10.30am to 12.15pm in association with Anti Gender Harassment Committee & Women Cell of our institution. The guest speakers gave awareness on the usage of drug and its adverse effects to the students and explained how initially it starts and how it goes into the stage of addiction etc. They also explained how to recover from it so as to lead a normal and happy life. About 150 students and 3 staff members got benefitted from the programme.

3. FIRST YEAR INAUGURATION (11.08.2025)

Our NSS volunteers actively volunteered in all aspects, instilling a sense of pride and unity among everyone present, marking the end of a memorable and significant day.

4. INDEPENDENCE DAY (15.08.2025)

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm on 15th August 2025 in our college premises. The celebration commenced with an impressive March Past by the NCC cadets, followed by the flag hoisting ceremony by our Correspondent, Rev. Fr. S. Godwin Selva Justus. The gathering then took the Pledge, sang the Flag Song, and recited the Preamble of the Constitution, reaffirming their commitment to national values. The formal program began with the Welcome Address by NSS volunteer. The event was presided over by our Correspondent, Rev. Fr. S. Godwin Selva Justus, who, in his address, highlighted the importance and unique features of the Indian Constitution. Our Principal, Dr. J. Maheswaran, and Vice-Principal, Dr. V. Christus Jaya Singh, felicitated the gathering with their inspiring words. The cultural program featured vibrant performances by NSS, including a patriotic song, poetry recitation, and dance, which captivated the audience. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by YRC volunteer Akash Roshan. The celebration concluded with the National Anthem, followed by the distribution of sweets to all participants. The programme management was successfully organized by the YRC, NCC, NSS, Sports Club, and the Constitution Club. The event not only fostered patriotism and unity among the students but also served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters and the constitutional values we uphold today.

5. INFOSYS – RURAL REACH PROGRAM (RRP) FOR SCHOOL STUDENTS ON (22.08.2025)

Our NSS volunteers actively volunteered in the Infosys Rural Reach Programme by guiding the school students. Around 55 NSS volunteers actively participated.

6. STATE LEVEL WORKSHOP ON DISASTER MANAGEMENT (28.08.2025-30.08.2025)

Introduction:

The National Service Scheme (NSS) of Tamil Nadu conducted a three-day State Level Workshop on Disaster Management and First Aid for NSS volunteers and programme officers. The program aimed at equipping students with knowledge, skills, and practical training in disaster preparedness, emergency response, and community resilience. It included expert sessions, hands-on training, cultural events, and interactive discussions.

Day 1 (28.08.2025 – Thursday)

The workshop began with a grand inaugural ceremony including Tamilthai Vaalthu, NSS song, welcome dance, and lighting of the lamp. Dignitaries such as Dr. A. Veliappan (NSS Coordinator, MS University), Dr. P. N. Gunanidhi (TN State NSS Officer) and Tmt. R. Alagumeena IAS (District Collector, Kanniyakumari), addressed the gathering.

Technical Sessions:

Session I: Contemporary Society and Disaster Awareness – Dr. S. Surendran emphasized the importance of social preparedness.

Session II: Disasters Encountered in Kanniyakumari District – Mr. Siluvai Vasthian shared real-time disaster experiences.

Session III: Mock Drill on Earthquake, Fire, and Flood – Conducted by Mr. T. Immanuvel (Fire & Rescue Station), providing hands-on practical training.

The day ended with cultural performances by NSS volunteers and a feedback session.

Day 2 (29.08.2025 – Friday)

The second day began at 6:00am with Yoga training by Dr. K. L. S. Geetha to strengthen physical and mental health.

Next session started at 9:00am conducted by Fact-Check Club from Chennai.

Interactive assessments, discussions, and Q&A made the sessions more engaging. The evening concluded with cultural programs and volunteer feedback.

Day 3 (30.08.2025 – Saturday)

The final day started at 6:00am with NSS flag hoisting.

As part of our NSS programme activities, we had the opportunity to visit important historical, cultural, and natural landmarks in Kanyakumari.

The visit of Kanyakumari was both educational and inspirational. Each landmark we visited carried a special message — from disaster awareness at the Tsunami Pole, to truth and patriotism at Gandhi Mandapam, spiritual strength at Vivekananda Rock, moral values at Thiruvalluvar Statue, and modern tourism development at the Glass Bridge.

As NSS volunteers, this experience strengthened our sense of service, discipline, and responsibility towards society, while also deepening our appreciation of India’s heritage and values.

Valedictory Function:

The workshop concluded with a formal valedictory ceremony.

Addresses were given by Dr. P. N. Gunanidhi (State NSS Officer), Thiru E. Prasanth IFS (District Forest Officer, Kanyakumari), and Dr. A. Nagarajan (Chairman, S.T. Hindu College).

The workshop report was presented, feedback was collected, and certificates were distributed to the participants.

Conclusion:

The three-day NSS Workshop was highly beneficial, blending theory, practical training, and cultural exposure. It enhanced volunteers’ awareness of disasters, preparedness strategies, first aid techniques, and social responsibilities. The event successfully instilled leadership, teamwork, and service-mindedness, reflecting the true spirit of NSS – “Not Me But You”.

7. INAUGURATION OF NON-PROFESSIONAL CELLS (04.09.2025)

The formal inauguration of the Non-professional cells of our Institution for the academic year 2025-26 was held on 4th September 2025. The program started at 2:30pm with the prayer song. The Vice Principal and the Coordinator of Non-professional cells Dr. J. Christus Jeyasingh gave the introductory talk. The Principal Dr. J. Maheshwaran felicitated the gathering. The Correspondent Rev. Fr. S. Godwin Selva Justus inaugurated the function with his presidential address. Our NSS Volunteer Ms. J. E. Helena introduced the office bearers of NSS for the academic year 2025-2026. Followed by NSS various Non-professional cells of SXCCE, like NCC, YRC, Fine arts club, Tamil mantam, Jyothis, Eco club, Radio club, Women’s cell, etc, were inaugurated. The program came to an end with the national anthem.

8. MAPERUM TAMIL KANAVU (11.09.2025)

Our NSS volunteers actively volunteered and participated in the Maperum Tamil Kanavu programme, organised by the District Administration. Around 50 NSS volunteers actively participated.

9. NATIONAL UNITY DAY PLEDGE (31.10.2025)

On 31st October 2025, our college's National Service Scheme volunteers and students took National Unity Pledge. The purpose of this event was to promote unity, Integrity, and security of the Nation.

10. MAPERUM TAMIL KANAVU (07.11.2025)

Our NSS volunteers actively volunteered and participated in second phase of Maperum Tamil Kanavu programme on 07.11.2025 organized by the District Administration. Around 50 NSS volunteers actively participated.
